2020 marked a nadir that damaged human, social and economic wellbeing, but it was also a crucible that accelerated digital transformation and efforts to identify new areas of sustainable value and reskill talent for Malaysia’s future competitiveness and growth.
In 2021, the Government has announced plans to reinvent Malaysia as a digitally-driven nation through MyDigital and the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint, which requires strategic domestic and foreign investments and digitally-ready talent. Tax revenues will be required to help fund this paradigm shift, resulting in a heavier burden of tax compliance and governance for businesses subject to increased scrutiny in a volatile and uncertain landscape.
